International events
Following their successful participation at the British Inclusive Skating Championships many Inclusive Skaters are participating in International events across the globe. 10 skaters participated in the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria, 4 Skaters participated in the World Figure Sport Championships in Vail Colorado in 2017 and 5 skaters in the Santa Claus competition in Finland in December 2017.
A full team is invited to participate in Colorado 2018.
Who we are
Founded in 2010 by Margarita Sweeney-Baird, Inclusive Skating became a registered charity in September 2011. Supporters of the Inclusive Skating movement are establishing clubs and projects across the world and building towards our first World Championship.
We develop events with Special Olympics GB, British Blind Sport and Genetic Disorders UK too!
What we do
We seek to develop ice skating as a sport that will include all skaters with a disability or an impairment in the UK and globally and obtain recognition for ice skating to become a paralympic sport. We hold major annual ice skating competitions. We support the development of family and care based Inclusive Skating clubs that support the Inclusive Skaters and their community.
Technical
We have developed Rules of Competition and a Classification Code that allows skaters with any form of disability or an impairment (visual, hearing, physical or intellectual) to compete together on an equal basis in figure, dance and speed skating competition. All skating disciplines are now included in the programme of events. We have created the first Inclusive Skating for Genes Championships that is specially for children with genetic disorders.
Get Involved
We are seeking support and participation from clubs all over the world. So far we have had skaters from Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, Canada, Austria, Russia, Iceland, USA and Finland.
Please sign up for Jeans for Genes Day and choose Inclusive Skating as your nominated partner charity.
So come and join us and let everyone ‘live the dream’.
